Capital Maintenance Projects and Capital Campaign Update April 2015

Capital Maintenance Projects Updates:

Completed:  Jeff Carels and the project execution team have made excellent progress.  Projects have been moving forward pretty much on schedule, and most completed projects have been below budget!  The following projects have been completed:  Boilers replacement; Security System upgrade; Telephone System replacement/upgrade; Parking Lot repaving, sealing and striping; English Room Fireplace draft problems; Pew Pad replacement; Pew repairs and modifications.
In progress:  Pew refinishing, which Tony Baldwin is planning to complete over roughly two years.  Also, new Chairs for Pilgrim Hall are being evaluated and will arrive before September.
Still to come:  The bid process is progressing for the Sanctuary Lighting, Pilgrim Hall Lighting, and the Chancel Floor/Steps refurbishing.  The work on these three projects will be completed during summer 2015.  After these are complete, we need to pay back the $103,000 loan from Union’s Gift and Memorials Fund that was used to fund the tuckpointing and paving projects that had to be done before this Capital Campaign began.
Thanks to everyone for putting up with noise, smells and inconveniences while project work is done!

Capital Maintenance Fund Raising Campaign update:

We have just entered the second year of this three year capital fund raising effort, and we are getting close to reaching our goal of having funds or pledges to cover all the items on the list approved at the Congregational Meeting in April 2014.  The total of pledges to date combined with total non-pledge donations received to date is within $10,000 of covering the goal!  This is very good progress and a big step forward since last fall.  With two years to go, the total of pledges still to be paid is still pretty large:  $89,000.
So what is the challenge remaining?  First, we need to continue receiving your pledge payments toward the unpaid $89,000.  If you have pledged to the Capital Campaign, please make every effort to complete your pledge payment(s) on or ahead of schedule.  Second, we need at least $10,000 in additional pledges.  If you have not yet pledged or wish to increase your pledge, please do so by contacting our Financial Secretary Winnie Hutjens (call the Church Office or email Winnie at  If you are not sure of the status of your pledge, check your quarterly statement (mailed out around 4/15/15) or check with Winnie.
The Stewardship Ministry and the Capital Maintenance Projects Committee want to thank all who are pledging and donating to support these important projects that will help ensure we have a church home suitable for our worship, faith development and fellowship activities as well as for all of the other ministry efforts that use the church facilities.
