In her “Rituals of Gratitude” sermon on Sunday, Pastor Bridget introduced the idea of a Reverse Advent Calendar. The idea is simple – it is the REVERSE of a traditional advent calendar, where kids usually enjoy a chocolate each day or get a toy, counting down the days until Christmas. Pick out a sturdy basket, box or bag and fill it with donations – one item for every day in December. You can decorate it if desired, making it something for the kids to help with. Then, on Christmas Eve, bring your donations to church to be distributed or donate them to your charity of your choice.
The Reverse Advent Calendar encourages us to think of others as we wait to celebrate Jesus’ birth. What a great way to serve and focus on the coming of Gods reign this Advent!
